"From the late 16th century there emerged in Italy a number of female artists, like Artemesia Gentileschi, who gained national and even international reputations. In the 18th century many artists like Elisabeth Vigee Le Brun, gained admittance to the French Academy, while in England Angelica Kauffman provoked "Angelica-mania". In the 19th century both Rosa Bonheur and Lady Butler became celebrities, whilst Berthe Morisot was acknowledged as the Impressionist par excellence. The day will conclude with Laura Knight, who was THE war artist at the Nuremberg war crimes trials in 1946."
